DLA Land and Maritime is looking for companies to compete for this fuel cap used on the KC-135 super-tanker.  Currently there is only one supplier, Jamaica Bearing, who is selling these for $907.18 in quantity of 56.

The OEM is Eaton Industries (CAGE 86090) with a part number of 6986-4.  The price has risen from $70.65 in 2001, which is likely why DLA has flagged this item for more competition.

DLA estimates annual demand at 201 units.  Based on their internal cost estimate, they spend $200,017 each year in these gas caps. They are so interested in getting other companies to compete for this business that they have set-aside samples for manufacturer’s to reverse engineer.
