DLA Land and Maritime is soliciting 151 Ni-Cad batteries used in the F-16 aircraft.  These 11.2 volt alkaline batteries have an ampere hour capacity of 1.80 and a time capacity of 5 hours. It has a steel case with 18 cells and side terminals with threaded studs. The battery, NSN 6140-01-179-4588 also includes a cover and heater kit.  The OEM is Lockheed Martin with part number C8715-3.

It was last sold to the military by Marathonnorco Aerospace for $1,847 each in quantity of 63.  Other suppliers include ECI Defense, Saft America, and Kampi Components. Based on passed procurement history we estimate the value of this contract to be $278,897.

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has issued a solicitation for bearing replacement kits used in the diesel engines of the M88A2 Heavy Recovery Vehicle.  The resulting contract will have two base years plus one option year for a maximum duration of 36 months.  The Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) will be used to submit delivery orders against it for delivery to world wide destinations.

They were last supplied to the military by Adept Fastener for $1.13 each in quantity of 7,170.  Other suppliers include KLX Aerospace, Defense Support Services, Herndon Products, and Columbia Nut & Bolt. At the most recent price, this order could be worth approximately $30,000.

DLA Land and Maritime is soliciting 73 watt torque motors.  The exact quantity is not stated, but DLA estimates annual demand at 45 units. The guaranteed minimum quantity will be 6 units.  The awardee will receive an Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) that the government will use to submit delivery orders over 12 months.  DOD estimates approximately 9 delivery orders, and expects delivery 158 days from each order.

There are currently only two approved sources for this motor, NSN 6105-01-078-1298, but others can apply by submitting a Source Approval Request.  The buyer on the solicitation direct companies where to submit this. The two companies are Moog, Inc and Kearfott Corp.  Pride Electronics has supplied it in the past, but is not on the current list of approved sources.  Taking time to obtain source approval can pay dividends because very few companies are currently approved to supply this item.

The most recent supplier is Friedman Enterprises (CAGE 6KB87), who sold this motor for $2,958 each in quantity of 59.  Oddly Friedman is not in most recent list of current approved sources, even though the item is designated for approved sources only. The buyer may have more detail on this.  It’s also worth noting that the price has more than doubled over 10 years from $1,375 each.

DLA is looking for more competition from companies that can produce this wiper blade used on the MH-47E Special Operations Aircraft.  This slide hook wiper with replaceable rubber blade, NSN 1680-00-133-7219 measures 18 inches wide.  The OEM is Rosemount Aerospace, Inc. with prices ranging from $331 in quantity of 58 to $422 for an order of 6 units.

The military estimates annual demand of 108 units of this wiper blade, part number 2315M-28-1.

A technical drawing is available from DLA.  In fact the government is so interested in finding more suppliers for this item that they are offering samples for reverse engineering.

If you feel that you can produce this wiper, it might be worth pursuing.  There is no current solicitation for this item.  This is an announcement regarding DLA’s interest in finding other contractors to supply it long-term.
