The light assembly NSN 6220-01-527-5887 has a manufacturer’s part number of 16VF016001-4. The last company to sell this item to the military was Soderberg Mfg which sold 27 units for $934 each.  There is no quantity listed in the solicitation but DLA estimates that they will purchase 635 over five years.  The annual demand estimate of 127 units has increased from 89 last year.

Quarter million dollar DLA solicitation for lithium batteries

DLA Land and Maritime has issued a solicitation for lithium batteries used on the C-130J aircraft.  This Lithium ELT battery pack 6135-01-461-2915 is used with the Model B406-4 Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT). These 406 MHz distress beacons are used in conjunction with the Cospas-Sarsat System in the event of an aircraft crash.

These Emergency Locator Transmitters can be manually activated by a pilot using a switch or automatically activated by a G-switch. The G-switch inside the beacon that activates automatically when it detects excessive G-forces experienced during a crash. ELTs will transmit the distress signal for at 24 hours. This Artex/ACR Electronics ELT Lithium ELT battery pack part number 452-0133 is typically replaced every 5 years.

The last company to supply these batteries was Aviatrix, Inc for $714.70 each in quantity of 140. A larger order of 316 was sold for $430.85 each.  Other suppliers include Southern Cross Aviation, FBC Enterprises, and Kampi Components.

The solicitation calls for 658 battery packs.  Based on past procurement history we estimate the value of this contract at $284,940.

Another solicitation that might be of interest to battery suppliers is SP3300-22-Q-0128 which includes 393 6 and 12 volt batteries used in golf carts, cranes and emergency lights. This one closes 9/22/2022.

This gauge, NSN 6685-00-684-1667 is 2″ in diameter with a range of 0 to 4,000 PSI.  The actuating element is made of beryllium copper.  For the last 10 years only one company has supplied this item to the military, so DLA has decided that they would like to see more competitors.

The gauge is used in the F-16, KC-130 and C-130 Hercules aircraft.  It complies with military specification MIL-DTL-25308.

There is no current solicitation for the item, but DLA orders 294 of these gauges each year with an estimated total landed cost of $188,586. They were last sold to the military by Q.E.D., Inc for $446.50 each in quantity of 99.  DLA anticipates continued demand for this item.

Technical data and drawings are not available but DLA is so interested in finding competition that they are making samples available to companies that wish to reverse-engineer this item.
