There is currently only one supplier for this item.  Arkwin Industries has been the only supplier of this item p/n 12A049-1D over the past 18 years.  The price has risen steadily over the past 10 years to $6,186.  Lockheed Martin is the OEM with part number 4H90233-101D.

The military is so interested in finding more suppliers for this item that they are making samples available for vendors to reverse engineer.  Currently there is no technical data package available.

The military has determined that they would like to encourage more competition for this item.  As a result, they are making samples of this kit available for contractors to reverse engineer.

DLA Land and Maritime is looking for companies to compete for this fuel cap used on the KC-135 super-tanker.  Currently there is only one supplier, Jamaica Bearing, who is selling these for $907.18 in quantity of 56.

The OEM is Eaton Industries (CAGE 86090) with a part number of 6986-4.  The price has risen from $70.65 in 2001, which is likely why DLA has flagged this item for more competition.

DLA estimates annual demand at 201 units.  Based on their internal cost estimate, they spend $200,017 each year in these gas caps. They are so interested in getting other companies to compete for this business that they have set-aside samples for manufacturer’s to reverse engineer.

DLA Land and Maritime is planning on issuing an Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) for supply of batteries used in the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAP).   This 12 volt battery rated at 2.6 Ah is a rechargeable SLA battery with a a manufacturer’s part number of PS-1229 and an NSN of 6140-01-213-0199.  The contract will have three base years and two option years.

DLA estimates annual demand at 8,544 units.    The battery was last sold to the military for $17.82 in quantity of 1,736 by Battery Emporium & Technology.  They have been the exclusive supplier since 2016.  At this price, if all five years of this contract are executed it could be worth $761,270.
